Ernie Moore (Basketball, 1960-64)

Ernie Moore was a four-year starter from 1960-64 on some of the finest teams ever produced at Wichita State.

  • The Shockers won 78 games in that span, including a 23-6 mark in Moore¹s senior season of 1963-64.

  • He quarterbacked that squad to its first Missouri Valley Conference championship, averaging 17.4 points per game.

  • That output was second on the team only to Dave Stallworth¹s 26.5-point average.

  • Moore averaged in double figures each of his four seasons.

  • Finished his career with 1,055 points, joining only seven other Shockers at that time in the 1,000-Point Club.

  • His top scoring game was 30 points in a victory over Tulsa in 1961.

  • He led the team in scoring average in 1961-62 at 15.1 points.

  • Despite his scoring ability, he was feared by opponents for his extreme quickness and strength which made him a defensive force in the backcourt. Inducted, 1997.
