Roberto Saad (Tennis, 1980-84)

One of the top collegiate tennis players in the nation during his career at Wichita State from 1980-84.

  • Achieved NCAA All-America honors in both singles and doubles competition in 1983.

  • Advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship that season.

  • He and Paul Smith teamed in doubles competition to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.

  • Earned a singles ranking as high as No. 5 during the 1984 season.

  • Won Missouri Valley Conference singles titles three consecutive years.

  • Teamed with Brod Dyke in 1981 to win the No. 1 MVC doubles crown and garnered the title in 1983 with Paul Smith.

  • He and Smith also teamed to win the 1983 ITCA National Indoor Doubles Championship.

  • Was the first WSU player to win an ITCA-sanctioned event when he captured the singles title at the 1983 Milwaukee Classic.

  • Posted victories over some of the top players in the country during his career, including Jimmy Arias and Paul Annacone.

  • Amassed a career singles record of 86-34.

  • Went on to play tennis professionally following his career at Wichita State. Inducted, 1997.
