Dick Sanders (Football, Basketball, Baseball, 1950-52)A multi-talented athlete who played three sports at the University of Wichita.
Played at quarterback and defensive back on the football team.
Stepped into a starting role as a junior in 1951 .
Led the team in passing that year, throwing for 674 yards .
Also intercepted three passes to lead the squad.
Played guard for the basketball team .
On Ralph Miller¹s first squad in 1951-52, he averaged 4.1 points and ranked second on the team in field goal percentage.
In four starting assignments that season he averaged 14.0 points and scored in double figures each game.
Baseball was his best sport.
A slick-fielding shortstop for the Shockers, he signed a professional contract with the New York Yankees following his junior season in 1952 .
Played professionally in the Yankees and Dodgers organizations for eight seasons.
Following his pro career, he played and coached semipro baseball clubs in Wichita.
A highly respected basketball and football official in the Missouri Valley and Big Eight conferences for nearly 20 years. Inducted, 1995.
