Herm Wilson (Track and Field, 1967-83) Regarded internationally during his 16-year tenure at Wichita State as one of the premier developers of track and field talent .
His Shocker cross country teams dominated the Missouri Valley Conference in the 1970s, winning five consecutive league championships .
Four Shocker cross country teams under his guidance qualified for the NCAA Championshps .
The 1971 team placed 14th in the national meet .
Wilson coached nine All-Americans in cross country and track, and produced 87 individual conference champions .
One of those All-Americans was 1972 Olympic long jumper Preston Carrington .
The 1972 Shocker outdoor track team captured the Missouri Valley Conference championship and 10 other track squads under Wilson finished as league runners-up .
Wilson was active on a national level, serving on the Olympic Development Committee as a member of the distance running staff .
He also served on the coaching staff of the USA track team at the 1979 World University Games .
He held various administrative posts in track and field for the National Sports Festival .
Served as meet director for the NCAA Cross Country Championships held in Wichita in 1980 and '81 .
Directed for 12 years the USTFF and USA-TFA national outdoor meets conducted in Wichita. Inducted, 1996.
