Signing Day Central & Final Roster | Coach Leavitt's Press Conference | Recruiting Coordinator Carl Franks

-- Twenty-two of the nation’s top high school and junior college football standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to attend school and play football for the University of South Florida.

“The final verdict on this class won’t be known for a couple years, but I can tell you that right now we are very excited about the class,” said USF head coach Jim Leavitt.  “We feel like we have met needs on both sides with players that will fit into our program and the style of football USF plays.”

As his program has been known for, Leavitt and his staff focused on signing the top talent in the state and have added 20 native Floridians.  The newest Bulls came from all over Florida, including three from Palm Beach County and two each from Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Orange, Leon and Broward counties.

The Bulls also continued their pipeline of talent from Georgia, where they added two players (running back Demetris Murray and defensive tackle Corey Grissom) in this class.

The class is dominated by underclassmen with the lone exceptions of junior college defensive ends David Bedford (Independence Community College) and Craig Marshall (Pearl River Community College) and junior college wide receiver Theo Wilson (Pearl River CC).  Fellow junior college standout Kion Wilson joined the Bulls program from Pearl River at the semester break and is already on campus and attending classes. Wilson is one of the top line backing prospects in the country.

The 19 high school prospects include seven coming in on the offensive side of the ball and seven on defense.  The Bulls also welcome two specialists and three players that could see action on both sides of the ball.  USF added the following at specific positions: offensive line (4), tight end (2), wide receiver (1), running back (1), quarterback (2), defensive line (6), linebacker (4), defensive back (3), kicker (1) and punter (1). (Also check class breakdown below)

The instate high school talent is highlighted by Lincoln HS quarterback B.J. Daniels, whom the Bulls were able to reel away from his hometown of Tallahassee.  Daniels is also a standout in basketball who has drawn interest from Stan Heath’s program. He will come to Tampa along with Tallahassee native and Chiles high school wide receiver Daniel Bryant.  Bryant and Daniels were also teammates in middle school.

The Bulls went down to Miami and signed Northwestern linebacker Quavon Taylor, who was the main defensive cog that led his high school to USA Today’s High School National Championship.  Also added on the offensive side of the ball were Lake Gibson high school OL Josh Garvin, Vanguard high school TE Jeff Hawkins, Plant City high school OL Mark Popek, Belle Glades Central high school OL Jatavious Jackson, Tampa native and Wharton attendee TE Andreas Shields.

Dual threat quarterback Evan Landi  from Coral Springs Charter high school will join the Bulls as a signal caller, but also projects as a possible defensive back. Palm Beach Central high school OL/DL Danous Estenor and Glades Central high school OL/DL Jatavious Jackson will challenge time on both lines. Estenor has been labeled by USF defensive line coach Dan McCarney as a, “hidden gem on the national recruiting scene.”

On the defensive side of ball defensive back John Lejiste from Atlantic Community high school and lightning fast cornerback George Baker figure to provide immediate depth in the defensive secondary that lost highly touted NFL prospects Trae Williams and Mike Jenkins.  Also joined the USF fold on defense are Tarpon Springs DL Donnel Engram, Lake Mary LB Michael Lanaris and St. Petersburg native and future linebacker Armando Sanchez.
