Paul Grua is in his 11th year at Weber State. He is in his fourth year as the Director of Athletic Communications for Weber State Athletics.
In his role, Grua serves as the primary media contact for all of WSU’s 16 NCAA sponsored sports, with specific responsibilities for football, men’s basketball. He also helps coordinate Weber State social media and online presence. WeberStateSports.com has seen a massive increase in hits during the past few years.
In April 2011, he was named Director of Athletic Communications. During the 2011-12 season, he helped promote and coordinate numerous media and NBA scout inquires surrounding All-American Damian Lillard and his rise to the NBA.
In his 10 years with Weber State Athletics, Grua has worked in media relations and marketing and promotions. He began working at Weber State in January 2004 as a Sports Information Assistant, where he handled men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field and men’s and women’s tennis for Weber State. He served as the media coordinator for the 2004 Big Sky Tennis Championship and 2004 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships, both held in Ogden.
In August 2004, he was hired full-time as the Assistant Media Relations Director. In October 2005, Grua was the media coordinator for the 2005 Big Sky Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships in Ogden and in 2007 and 2013, he was the media coordinator for the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships, also in Ogden. He was also the Meet Director for the 2010 Big Sky Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Weber State.
In 2008, Grua moved to the Marketing & Promotions department with the athletic department where he was the Assistant Marketing & Promotions Director. In 2010 he was named Marketing Coordinator and was responsible for the Marketing of all of WSU Athletics as well as game management and operations.
Prior to coming to Weber State, Grua worked as the Assistant Information Director for the Big Sky Conference in the fall of 2003 where was the league contact for women’s soccer and men’s and women’s Cross Country. He served as the media coordinator for the 2003 Big Sky Women’s Soccer Championship.
A native of Ogden, Grua graduated from Weber State University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. While a student at Weber State, he served as Sports Director for both the campus radio station KWCR and the Weber State Television News station. He also helped the WSU Sports Information office with the computer statistical program for men’s and women’s basketball games. He has also worked as a producer at Sports Radio AM-1280 “The Zone” in Salt Lake City and as an intern for KSL-TV. During the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics he worked as a broadcasting systems operator. He is a 1995 graduate of Ogden High School.
In 2013, Grua graduated with a master’s degree in Professional Communication from Weber State. As part of his master’s project, he wrote a history book on the 50th Anniversary of the Weber State men’s basketball program.
Grua married Melissa Hales in July 2005. The couple has three children, Seth, Levi and Avery.
