STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Athletics Director Sam Baker has accepted a letter of resignation from Head Softball Coach Maggie Johnson following three years of service to the University. Johnson led the Eagles to an 87-80 overall record and was the fastest coach in Eagle Softball history to reach 50 wins.

Maggie did an outstanding job to re-energize the Softball program here at Georgia Southern,” said Baker. “Her teams' solid play on the field has made softball a fan-favorite sport here in Statesboro. We certainly wish her the best in her future endeavors”

Assistant Coach Liz Beirne will serve as Interim Head Coach while a national search is conducted to find a new Head Coach.

"I value my time at Georgia Southern and I appreciate the opportunity I have been given over the past three years,” said Johnson. “There's nothing like being a Georgia Southern Eagle. The athletics department and university have been nothing but supportive of our program. I wish great success to the softball program and to the Eagle athletic department in the future. The experience here has helped me to grow as a person and as a coach, and I will be forever grateful for the experience."
