STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Football team returned to the practice field on Sunday, August 7th, 2011 for an afternoon practice session. The Eagles were outfitted in shells for the final time before dressing in full pads for Monday morning's practice session. Head Coach Jeff Monken's Eagles practiced for 22 periods on a chamber of commerce Sunday afternoon in Statesboro.

"I think having these last two days in shells allowed the guys to bang into one-another," said Head Coach Jeff Monken. "I think the guys are anxious to get out there and go live. What will be different is guys getting hit below the waist. For those young guys playing on defense, some of them aren't used to getting blocked below the waist and that will be an adjustment for them."

"I think we've got a pretty good handle on our veteran group and what they are capable of doing," added Monken. "I want to see guys like K.R. Snipes (Opeilika, Ala.) or Zeke Rozier (Cochran, Ga.) that were out all last year get out there and hit for the first time. We're going to need those guys help us with the depth and hopefully we will get an indication starting with tomorrow's practice."

Georgia Southern's first full pads practice takes place on Monday morning at 9:30 on the banks of "Beautiful Eagle Creek." The team's first two-a-day practice is on Tuesday. The Eagles practice at 9 a.m. and at 4:33 p.m. on August 9th before the first off day of the season on Wednesday, August 10th.
