STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Football team scrimmaged for nearly two hours at Paulson Stadium Saturday and will return at 4:30 p.m. with the other fall sports teams to sign autographs and hand out schedule posters.

The Eagles ran the scrimmage like a real game and spread the plays among the three teams. The coaching staff also worked in a number of special teams' situations between the drives that included kickoffs, punts and field goals. A full set of officials worked the game and made sure the play was in accordance with all current rules.

The scrimmage will give the coaching staff a number of game-like snaps on film for them to evaluate over the weekend and work on Tuesday, when the team returns to practice following the start of the fall semester at Georgia Southern.

Head Coach Jeff Monken talked about what he will be looking for on that film in an interview with Eagle Vision. "First and foremost we are going to look for effort to see if the guys are playing hard. We put a lot of stake in how tough we play. Then we are going to look at assignments and see how the guys did in terms of playing the right coverage and blocking the right guy."

Coach Monken stressed the basics after the scrimmage. "Every one of our guys is capable of playing with toughness, knowing their assignments and lining up correctly. Those things take no ability to do correctly."
