An outstanding golfer who was the top performer for four seasons at North Dakota State in the early 1970s, Dahl led the Bison to the North Central Conference championship in 1973.

He was an outstanding professional golfer, winning over 20 pro golf tournaments and participating in the 1984 PGA Championship at Shoal Creek. He is a four-time KX Pro-Am champion and was named the Best Teacher in the State by Golf Digest Magazine twice.

Dahl was the Minnesota Section PGA Teacher of the Year in 1995, 1997 and 2001, and is a published contributor for USA Today Golf Tips. He has served as the head golf professional at the Oxbow Country Club.

An outstanding contributor in the community, he has served on the board of directors for Make-A-Wish Foundation and was named the Lions Club Humanitarian of the Year in 1981. Named to the Fargo North High School Hall of Fame in 1998, he had an outstanding prep career, winning the North Dakota state high school golf championship in 1969.

John and his wife Rachel have one daughter.
