One of the greatest wrestlers ever to attend North Dakota State, Demaray was a two-time NCAA College Division national champion at 177 pounds in 1971 and 1972, and he was a three-time NCC champion (at 167 in 1970 and 1972, and at 177 in 1971). In addition to his two national championships, he captured a third All-America award by placing sixth in the 1970 NCAA championships. His 67-7-0 record is the best winning percentage in school history (.905), but one match short of the 75 appearance minimum set in the NDSU record book. Demaray went on to coach at the high school level in North Dakota and Minnesota. Several of his athletes have wrestled at NDSU, including national champion Mike Langlais, who later entered the Bison Hall of Fame.
