Braden Looper  (Baseball, 1994-96)

First team All-America by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball  in 1996...Also a member of the Smith Super Team that season...Relief pitcher and WSU’s primary closer with 12 saves and a 1.17 ERA heading into the 1996 CWS...Completed the 1996 season with a 2.09 ERA and a 4-1 record...Gave up only three extra-base hits in 1996 (three doubles)...At the end of his career, he was third in career saves with 26, while he currently is fourth on the WSU career saves list...Also named All-MVC first team member and academic first team...Had 13 saves in 1995 as a sophomore...Also named to the 1995 all-MVC first team and had the most saves in the Valley...In 1994 as a freshman worked as the No. 4 starter over the final five weeks of the season...His first career win was a 4-2 triumph over Oklahoma, yielding five hits and an unearned run in seven innings while striking out five and walking three...A native of Mangum, Okla...Was the No. 3 pick overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1996 draft after his junior season...Looper made his major league debut in 1998 with St. Louis, and has been with Florida since 1999...Nominated for induction, 2003.
