The women’s basketball team volunteered their time at the 16th Annual Komen MA Race for the Cure on Sunday Sept. 7. The 5k-run/walk event is to support efforts on finding a cure for breast cancer. The Huskies passed out water to all of the participants at the event’s lone water station.

The race took place at UMass Boston. The event had over 5,000 participants who were celebrating a survival of breast cancer, supporting ones who are fighting breast cancer, and remembering those who have lost their life to breast cancer.

Funds are raised to provided breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment to everyone in the state of Massachusetts. Last year’s race raised more than $1 million for the fight of breast cancer.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
