HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 16, 2008 -- Special Olympians and children from the central Shenandoah Valley had a chance to meet and work with JMU athletes recently as the Dukes took part in two fun-filled area programs.

JMU hosted Special Olympians for its annual "Day with the Dukes" program on the JMU campus on Saturday, Sept. 3.  Activities included workouts with the men's and women's basketball teams and softball team, a tour of the basketball locker rooms and dinner with the athletes.

The Special Olympians then attended the JMU-North Carolina Central football game that evening at Bridgeforth Stadium.

"Children's First," an annual information and entertainment festival sponsored by WHSV-TV, was also held that day at Eastern Mennonite University.  JMU Athletics was represented by a number of teams, including men's and women's basketball, football, lacrosse, swimming and diving, cheerleaders and the Dukettes dance team.
