Nicole Brown, who is Georgia Southern’s only track & field athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships, is entering her second season as an assistant coach under Natalie Smith. Last season was Smith’s first year coaching and she helped the Eagles compete strongly in the Southern Conference, and helped send three student-athletes compete in the NCAA East Regional last season.

In addition to her sprints and jumps coaching responsibilities, Brown will be in charge of the team’s recruiting, practices, scheduling and other administrative duties.

An accomplished athlete, Brown was the 2007 Southern Conference Field Performer of the Year (indoor) and 2007 SoCon Track Athlete of the Year (outdoor). She was recognized by the Georgia Women’s Intersport Network (GA W.I.N.) as the 2007 Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year for her efforts on the track. She holds 11 Georgia Southern school records as well as two SoCon records (60m indoor, long jump outdoor). Brown was named to the NCAA All-East Region team in 2007 for her performance in the 4x100m relay and the triple jump. She also claimed the East Regional Championship in the triple jump in 2007. Brown was also tabbed to the SoCon’s 25th Anniversary of Women’s Championships Team.

In addition to her outstanding career on the track, Brown also excelled in the classroom. She was a four-year member of the Socon All-Academic team and was named to the All-District Academic second team by ESPN the Magazine.

"It has been my pleasure to work with Coach Brown for the last two seasons," said head coach Natalie Smith. "She has truly been my right hand. She is not only a great coach but she does a really good job administratively. I have had the pleasure of seeing her transition from athlete to coach in a very short time and I believe that she is doing an exceptional job."

Brown led Collins Hill HS to region, county and state championships as a senior. She was named All-County three times (2000-03) during her prep career. In addition, she was a member of the state champion 4x100m relay team in 2003. Brown was also named to the All-Metro Atlanta squad as a senior.

Brown received her B.B.A in Information Systems with an emphasis on Enterprise Security from Georgia Southern in the spring of 2007.

"She has done a great job of balancing career with finishing up her master’s in Business Administration this year and I believe that is commendable," said Smith.
