Baseball, 1960-63...Turned in a career batting average of .321 while playing every inning of 122 games for Georgia Southern under the direction of legendary coach J.I. Clements... A two-year NAIA All-America selection in 1962 and 1963 as a junior and senior... Excelled during the ‘62 NAIA College World Series, earning all–tournament (First Team) honors... After batting .331 as a freshman helping GSC to a runner-up finish at the NAIA College World Series, he hit .347 with 10 home runs as a junior in 1962 to lead his squad to the NAIA National Championship... Enjoyed a stellar performance in the Region VII Tournament prior to the CWS, hitting .667 (12-of-18) while driving in 12 runs... Held school's consecutive game hit record for 22 years, hitting safely in 18 straight games during the 1962 campaign... Signed with the New York Yankees after his college career and was assigned a roster position with the organization's Class AA squad in Augusta (South Atlantic League).
