The prototype power forward for the Bison women’s basketball team in the early 1980s...Four-year starter and part of head coach Amy Ruley’s first freshman class at NDSU...Bison teams compiled a 71-47 record during her career including a 22-10 record in 1982...NDSU advanced to the 1982 AIAW National Final Four in Charleston, S.C....Named to the 1983 All-North Central Conference first team, 1982 NCC All-Tournament team and NCC All-Academic first team...Earned NCC Player of the Week honors once during career...Finalist for the NCC’s Stan Marshall Award during her senior year...No. 13 all-time in scoring with 1,312 points (11.2 ppg) over 117 career games...Connected on 563 of 1,243 field goal attempts for 45.3% and 186 of 283 from the foul line for 65.3%... No. 5 all-time in rebounding with 927 caroms...Also played volleyball for two seasons under the direction of Donna Palivec...Graduated from NDSU in May 1983 with an associate’s degree in nursing, and in February 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education...Worked as an R.N. at Dakota Hospital in 1983...Graduated from Fertile-Beltrami (Minn.) High School in 1979, where she lettered in volleyball, basketball and track...Earned all-state honors in 1978 and 1979, scoring 1,287 points during her prep career...Played on three straight state tournament basketball teams (1977-78-79)...Currently teaching physical education at her alma mater Fertile-Beltrami...Head girls’ basketball coach and an assistant volleyball coach at Fertile-Beltrami...Led Fertile-Beltrami to a pair of conference basketball titles in 1998 and 1999...Coached the 2005 North Central All-Star team this past spring at Bemidji State...Other teaching and coaching stops included Northdale Middle School, Coon Rapids High School and Blaine High School...An assistant girls’ basketball coach for state tournament teams for Blaine (1993) and Fertile-Beltrami (1995)...Shelley and her husband, Kevin, have a daughter, Andrea, and a son, Tyler.
