A teammate of Blakely's and captain of the 1924-25 basketball Bison. Arnold was also a standout gridder, but was best known for his cage prowess. He became NDSU's first three-time All-North Central Conference performer, earning first team recognition in basketball in 1924, 1925 and 1926. His name also was etched in the Chicago Tribune’s list of All-America cagers. A long shot artist, Arnold was the main scoring cog on NDSU teams that captured a conference crown in 1926 and was second in both 1924 and 1925. He led the NCC in scoring with 123 points in 15 league clashes. Despite banged up knees, he quarterbacked the 1925 Bison football team to the school's first conference title in that sport. Arnold played football for the U.S. Marines in 1926-27.
