MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho added new championship hardware to its trophy cases last week. Both women’s tennis and men’s golf were able to claim their respective titles last week, earning Vandal Athlete of the Week honors.

Women’s tennis entered the Big Sky Championship as the tournaments’ No. 3 seed. Idaho had two win three matches in three days to earn its third consecutive NCAA berth. Idaho opened with a 4-1 win over Eastern Washington. The Vandals met Sacramento State in the semifinals. For the second straight season the Vandals ended the Hornets’ season, bouncing them from the tournament with a 4-2 win. Idaho defeated No. 2 Northern Arizona, 4-0, to seal the championship.

Idaho men’s golf captured its second Big Sky championship in as many seasons. The Vandals set a Big Sky 54-hole low record, totaling a 22-under 842 (282-289-271). Idaho shot a record 17-under 271 on the final day, overcoming a four stroke Sacramento State lead. Ryan Porch shot the lowest score of the tournament with a seven-under 65 on Sunday, moving him up five spots and into a tie for second on the individual leaderboard.

Women’s tennis will play Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif., on Friday, May 13, for its opening round matchup in the NCAA Tournament. Men’s golf will learn its destination during the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive at 6:30 a.m. PT on Thursday.
