MOSCOW, Idaho—The Kibbie Dome’s unique versatility takes on another transformation this week with the start of the annual Vandal Volleyball Camp.
The Dome hosts many athletic events throughout the year, including football and basketball games as well as indoor track and field meets. From now until July 12 the Dome floor is split into nine separate volleyball courts.
“It is a great environment for our camp,” head coach Debbie Buchanan explained. “Everybody is in the same location and gets to watch other teams play. It is setup similarly to some of the regional tournaments throughout the country. It is very unique to have the space to do that.”
Teams and individuals from Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana are participating in this year’s camp. Teams are able to tour the campus and learn about the University during the camp.
“We have talked to the region about trying to run some club tournaments,” Buchanan added. “I think we could probably get 16 courts in there if we set it up the right way.”
Current and former Idaho volleyball players along with the Vandal coaching staff are on hand for the team camp (July 6-9), skill camp (July 9-12) and youth camp (July 10-12).
“Our camp is very coach friendly,” Buchanan said. “Teams get a ton of practice and play time. Lots of the instructors that helping run the camp are running practices and helping team coaches diagram offensive and defensive schemes.”
