2008 Season: Leads Ohio State pitchers with 54 strikeouts...struck out a career-high 13 batters vs. Penn Stae...leads Big Ten in opponents' batting average (.193)...3rd in Big Ten in strikeouts, 5th in ERA...has allowed just two earned runs in 14.1 innings in last two starts...as made four Big Ten starts, missing one with a hamstring injury...is 1-1 with team-best 1.91 ERA vs. Big Ten competition.

Looking at 2008:  J.B. will play a significant part in the success of the Buckeyes in 2008 ... a terrific athlete who can help at the plate, in the field and on the mound, he is a 90-game veteran who has started 80 times ... he is a career .319 hitter and has struck out just 13 times in 310 plate appearances ... he also is 12-9 on the mound with a career ERA of 3.75 ... “J.B. is a good ball player,” coach Bob Todd said. “He has been a valuable asset to us on the mound. He has also shown real potential as a hitter. We need to utilize J.B.’s speed this year.”

2007 (Sophomore): Was a considerable presence for the Buckeyes at the plate as an everyday utility player (who played five positions) and on the mound as a top three starting pitcher ... named third-team all-Big Ten Conference as an outfielder ... ranked fourth on the team with a .342 batting average and fourth with 37 RBI ... had team’s third-best ERA at 4.88 and tied for second in wins with three other players ... made 13 starts on the mound with two additional appearances in relief ... also started 32 times in left field, seven times in right, four times in center, five times as the designated hitter and once at first base ... hit safely in 17 consecutive games to open the season (27-66; .409) a 2007 team best with 20 RBI and 17 runs scored ... also had four-, five- and eight-game hitting streaks later in the season ... hit .370 with runners on base (40-108) and .500 with the bases loaded (3-6) ... hit .333 with runners in scoring position (25-75) and drove in 14 runs in 17 at-bats with runners on third and less than two out (.824) ... was a team-best 8-for-8 in stolen bases ... ranked second nationally in toughest to strike out (averaged one strikeout per 31.2 at-bats) ... was 5-9 with two RBI in the Michigan series and 6-11 against Indiana ... also went 5-9 with four RBI vs. Michigan State ... recorded 16 multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games ... had three hits eight times, including vs. Michigan and Indiana ... drove in three RBI in Big Ten tournament opening-game win over Penn State ... on the mound, lasted at least 4.1 innings in 12 of his 13 starts ... did not allow a run in two relief appearances, covering 4.0 innings ... pitched 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts, three runs and two walks in win over Dartmouth ... gave up 10 hits in a loss to Michigan, but came back strong to pick up Big Ten wins in consecutive starts vs. Indiana and Purdue ... pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just one run, one walk and striking out eight to beat Indiana and followed that with 7.0 innings of work vs. Purdue, scattering five hits and allowing just three runs with four strikeouts ... allowed just one earned run through six innings in a win over Minnesota ... played for Cotuit of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA.

2006 (Freshman):  An impact player as a true freshman ... made 15 appearances on the mound (as the Buckeyes’ No. 4 pitcher) and played another 40 games as a position player ... made a total of 44 starts (15 at first base, 13 in left field, 13 on the mound, two in right and one as the team’s DH) ... finished 8-5 with 2.51 ERA ... owned the team’s best ERA and was second with eight victories ... recorded 57 strikeouts in 79.0 innings and held opponents to a .253 batting average ... was 4-3 with a 2.58 ERA in conference action ... at the plate, he batted .325 with 40 hits, 19 RBI and 21 runs scored ... he struck out only seven times and drew 11 walks ... batted .319 in Big Ten play ... owned a .981 fielding percentage for the season, committing only three errors in 156 chances ... became ninth Buckeye to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year ... selected a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and a second-team all-Big Ten honoree ... recorded nine multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games ... season-high four hits came in game one vs. Minnesota and he drove in a season-high four runs in a 2-4 day vs. UMass  ... delivered pinch-hit single in his first career at bat in the season opener vs. Wake Forest ... earned his first pitching victory vs. Missouri, striking out six batters in 7.0 innings while allowing one run on three hits to earn a spot on the College Baseball Foundation Weekly Honor Roll ... took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in the series finale at Iowa ... struck out eight Hawkeyes ... allowed two earned runs and struck out 13 in 11.0 innings of work that week to earn a spot on the CBF National Honor Roll ... pitched the first complete game of his career in allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in the series finale vs. Illinois ... did not allow an earned run on eight hits in 7.2 innings at Indiana ... was 4-7 with a double and two RBI in two games vs. Minnesota ... pitched twice in the Big Ten tournament  ... picked up the win in relief in the 2-1, 12-inning victory vs. Purdue ... ranked among the conference leaders in wins (tied for second), batters struck out looking (tied for third, 28), earned run average (fourth) and lowest earned runs allowed (tied for fourth) ... named an OSU Scholar-Athlete ... played summer baseball for the Columbus All-Americans and was named by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Great Lakes League ... named to the all-star team.

Galion High School:  Named first-team All-Ohio as a junior and senior ... earned first-team Northern Ohio League and first-team all-district honors three times apiece ... named district MVP ... a two-time member of the Mansfield News Journal team ... two-time team MVP ... set Team Ohio record with two triples in a game at The Sunbelt Classic ... named MVP of the District 9 All-Star Game ... played in the Mizuno All-Star Game ... named the northwest district male athlete of the year by the Mansfield News Journal ... batted .578 as a senior with a 1.011 slugging percentage and .639 on-base percentage ... led the team with eight home runs, 52 hits and 36 RBI ... had a 1.12 ERA with 134 strikeouts in 69 innings and finished 6-2 with a pair of saves ... batted .453 as a junior with six home runs and 30 RBI, while striking out 90 batters in 52.1 innings ... batted .422 and had a 1.59 ERA as a sophomore and batted .429 and had a 2.91 ERA as a freshman ... four-year letterwinner for coach Dan Gorbett ... also won three letters in basketball and earned second-team all-league honors as a senior ... served as president of the Key Club and as secretary of Teen Green his senior year ... four-year member of the Spanish Club and was a member of the student council ... played summer baseball for the Ohio Warhawks in 2005.
